Grace Martial Arts Fellowship Newsletters 2001-10

Grace Martial Arts Fellowship began in 1990, went online with a website in 1995 and began publishing newsletters to the Christian martial arts community in 1998.

Because of the quality of information found in those early newsletter articles and the fact they are no longer available online, we’ve decided to re-publish many of them in the coming weeks and months. Our hope is that a new generation of Christian martial artists will be blessed by the wisdom of those who were on the path before them.

GMAF NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2001

Welcome to the GMAF Newsletter! We pray it will encourage you in your Martial Arts and Outreach for Christ.

Thoughts from the Master

“It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.”
Jesus Christ

“But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye have been saved): and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places IN Christ Jesus.” The Apostle Paul

Wisdom Notes

“O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.”
Psalm 139:1

“Known By God”
by
Sensei Mark McGee

These are times that try men’s souls. People around the civilized world feel small, vulnerable, breakable, alone. They share fears and anxiety openly. They weep easily. They search for answers to life’s deepest questions.

The message we have is that they are known by God. They are not alone. God knows them and loves them. They are important in His Sight. He watches over His children.
King David of Israel was often in battle. He knew the fears and challenges of war too well. He often cried out for God’s Grace and Mercy. At the darkest points in David’s life, God reminded David that he was known, loved and cared for.

“O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.” (Psalm 139:1-6)

During these difficult times and throughout the dark days ahead in our world, let us remember how special we are to God. Let us remind others about their relationship to Almighty God. He knows them. He loves them. He will care for them. How precious is our message of hope.

“How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!” (Psalm 139:17)

“The Game of Life”
Second Base: Church in Christ
by
Pastor Robert Xavier

“And the Lord added to the Church daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:47)

• Second base is where we are fitted in the Body of Christ as members, each with his own important design and function to benefit the whole. Second Base is where we identify the power of the living God dwelling IN US and US IN HIM.

“But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye have been saved): and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places IN Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:4-6)

• The building where the Body of Christ meets is not the Church. God does not dwell in temples made with human hands. His desire from the beginning has been to dwell within our hearts: “God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands.” (Acts 17:24)
• The Lord has chosen to dwell in us. We are temples of the Holy Spirit.
“What! Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which ye have of God and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) Together we form the Church, whether we meet in a building or in a field.
Church is a family of individuals at different stages of growth who belong
to each other by a deep tie of relatedness: the Blood of Jesus.
