Getting Started

First, let me draw your attention to the Yon Ch’uan Black Belt Study Guide (https://gracemartialarts.files.wordpress.com/2021/06/gma-black-belt-study-guide-2021-final.pdf). It contains the information you will need to reach Black Belt in Yon Ch’uan and understand the fundamental principles of our Art. If you do not have a printed copy, I recommend you print out any pages you find relevant to where you are in your training and testing. The Black Belt Study Guide is also a wonderful repository of information for growth in faith in Jesus Christ. In addition to the Bible verses and Christian character qualities attached to every rank level, you will find a wealth of spiritual guidance from pages 48 – 62.

Second, please take advantage of the materials published on our websites: https://gracemartialarts.com and http://www.gracemartialarts.org . You will find a lot of helpful information on both sites.

Third, Yon Ch’uan and Hwa Yu T’ai Chi Ch’uan have three paperback books for those who are interested in learning more about the Arts, their history, and principles. They are “The Chinese Five Word Song,” ” Hwa Yu T’ai Chi Ch’uan: Unlocking the Mysteries of the Five-Word Song,” and “Hwa Yu T’ai Chi Ch’uan Part II: The Inner Workings.” They are all available from Amazon.

Fourth, I ‘highly’ recommend that you practice what you learn during Grace Martial Arts classes throughout the week. Your desire may be to learn enough to defend yourself. Your desire may be to reach Black Belt. Your desire may be to learn as much as you possibly can in your lifetime about martial arts. We all come to the Art with different desires. We, your instructors, are here to help you reach your goals. Whatever your desire to accomplish, daily practice is necessary to reach your goal (feel free to take a day off from training each week to rest). How long you practice depends on what you want to accomplish and how much time you have to devote to it. If you are very busy with family, work, school, church activities, etc., 30 minutes a day for martial arts practice is certainly fine. If you would like help with ideas about how to vary your practice throughout the week to gain the most from your time, please let us know. Any of the Black Belts will be glad to share their experiences with you.
