A Self-Defense Story

It’s hard to believe that we moved from Tampa, Florida, to Huntsville, Alabama ten years ago. We took the photo above just a few months before moving. The move has been good for our family, but I miss the wonderful students of our Grace Martial Arts program in the Tampa Bay area.

God opened the door for us to start that program in the summer of 2002 – and I’m pleased to say that it continues to this day under the capable leadership of Sensei Mark Fisher and other Black Belt students. I’m privileged to participate with the students each Monday night via Zoom. Some of the students have also traveled to Alabama to visit and test for Black Belt. I’m also pleased that Grand Master Xavier also visits the Lutz class (just north of Tampa) on a regular basis to help keep everyone on the ‘straight and narrow’ of Yon Ch’uan Martial Arts.

I had hoped to start a GMA program here in Alabama similar to what we did in the Tampa area, but a rare disease caught up with me and kept that from happening. I was able to help as an instructor at another Christian martial arts program in Huntsville until the pandemic closed the school for a period of months and my disease became worse. I have continued to teach privately via Zoom. However, I miss the ‘hands-on’ experiences of martial arts.

Another opportunity God gave us prior to the pandemic shutdowns was building a self-defense seminar team. It started because of one woman’s story that I’d like to share with you. Please click on this link to read ‘Loni’s Story.’
