Grace Martial Arts had its beginning in 1971 when Mark McGee became a Christian and began teaching martial arts from a Christian perspective. He became involved with Judo and Karate for Christ in 1972. Mr. McGee started Grace Martial Arts and GraceLife Ministries in 1990 and began the online version for both in 1995. He worked with Grand Master Robert Xavier to start Grace Martial Arts Fellowship in 1997, and with Masters Ron Shively and Joseph Lumpkin to re-start Karate For Christ International in 1998. Sensei McGee continues to work with and support KFCI and other Christian martial arts organizations and instructors.
Sensei McGee has had the privilege of studying many great martial arts systems during 65 years of training – including Aikido, Judo, Japanese and Okinawan Karate-Do, Kempo, Kobudo, Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do, Tang Soo Do, and Tai Chi Ch’uan. Selecting the right teacher is as important as selecting the right martial art to study. Sensei McGee’s current instructors are Grand Master Robert Xavier (Yon Ch’uan, 15 Animal Kung Fu, Hwa Yu T’ai Chi Ch’uan) and Grand Master Stephen Van Camp (Shaolin Kung Fu, Matsumura Seito Shorin-ryu Karate, Tae Kwon Do). Mr. McGee is a 9th Degree Black Belt in Yon Ch’uan, a 7th Degree Black Sash in Shaolin, a Senior Instructor in T’ai Chi Ch’uan, and has Black Belts in many other styles of martial arts.
Sensei McGee taught in the Tampa, Florida area for 12 years and continues to oversee the Grace Martial Arts program there with Third, Second, and First Degree Black Belt instructors who have been his students for many years. We are also privileged to have a 6th Dan in Shorin Karate-do as a guest instructor along with Black Belt instructors in Aikido.
Sensei McGee founded Grace Martial Arts in 1990 for the purpose of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ through martial arts ministries. He is a member of Karate for Christ International, the International Network of Christian Martial Artists, and the Christian Black Belt Association.
Sensei McGee also oversees Self Defense Clinics in various communities as part of an effort to ‘Protect the Vulnerable.’ He is editor of the famous Chinese Five Word Song that is available in paperback and on Kindle.
